Wolf and the Battle for Mimicon

Volume 7
Chapter 1: Return to Mimicon
The stars did not feel so quiet this time.
Wolf guided the Wolf Rocket through a slow drift between silver asteroids. His eyes stayed locked on the dim sphere ahead. Once, Mimicon had burned with color, rings of violet and gold spinning like a living halo. Now it pulsed faintly, a sick light swallowed by shadow.
Moon snored softly beside him, paws twitching as if chasing something through a dream. Zarn, restless as ever, paced the deck in feline form, fur shifting from deep blue to green with every anxious step.
“We are close,” Zarn said. “But something is wrong. Mimicon’s glow is fading.”
Wolf tapped the radar screen. Static washed across it, then cleared just long enough to reveal a swarm of red dots. “Scanners show pirate ships. Too many. And some Nemisen signatures.”
Zarn’s tail lashed. “So they have returned.”
Moon’s ears perked. He let out a sharp bark, eyes wide and ready.
Wolf smiled without warmth. “Looks like they picked the wrong planet.”
The Wolf Rocket descended through the planet’s mist, streaking like a phantom through the smoke of battle. The once golden seas below were still, frozen under the weight of stolen energy.
Chapter 2: Invasion Protocol
The orbit was a cage. Pirate cruisers hung in formation, massive shadows with glowing red engines. Drones patrolled between them, humming with stolen Neomorph tech. The surface below flickered as entire cities dimmed and re-lit like dying circuits.
Moon barked twice, paw pressing on the console. “Signal incoming,” Wolf said, his voice tightening. “Encrypted. Originating from the surface.”
He scanned the code, frowning. “This rhythm, it’s Doctor WOW.”
Zarn froze. “He is alive?”
“Alive, yes. And captured.” Wolf leaned closer to the screen. “Message says he tried to protect the Neomorph cities. The Nemisens used his inventions to drain their energy fields. They’re feeding on the planet.”
Zarn hissed. “Then let us starve them instead.”
Wolf set the Rocket to stealth mode. “Let’s go save our favorite brain.”
The stars above flickered out as the ship cloaked itself and began a silent descent through Mimicon’s dark clouds.
Chapter 3: Welcome to the Resistance
They landed in a canyon of violet dust where crystal cliffs towered above them like blades of glass. Zarn wrapped the ship in illusion, bending light until it vanished completely. The air smelled faintly of ozone and scorched stone.
From the canyon wall, a hidden door opened. Out stepped a dozen Neomorph rebels, skin refracting light like fractured mirrors. At their front stood Zee, Zarn’s older sibling, wearing a half-smirk that was equal parts greeting and warning.
“You brought the Earth-dog and the cowboy,” Zee said.
Zarn shrugged. “And a plan.”
Wolf nodded. “Step one: find WOW. Step two: stop the pirates. Step three: kick the Nemisens right back into a black hole.”
Moon barked and wagged his tail.
“And snacks,” Zarn added. “Moon requires snacks.”
Laughter rippled through the group. For a moment, the rebellion felt alive again. Then Zee gestured toward a holographic map glowing above the sand. “Doctor WOW is being held beneath the old crystal mines. They turned them into a power forge. The core is unstable. If it cracks, Mimicon dies.”
Wolf tightened his gloves. “Then let’s make sure it doesn’t.”
Chapter 4: Prison Break
The mines stretched for miles below the surface, filled with glowing pipes and humming machines. The Nemisens had turned beauty into machinery, hollowing out the crystals that once sang.
In the heart of the fortress, Doctor WOW floated in a containment field. His four arms were bound in light, his eyes bright with defiance.
Wolf and Zarn entered disguised as mercenaries. Zarn’s shape shimmered into a tall, scaled warrior while Wolf wore an old bounty coat. Moon trotted behind them, tiny muzzle labeled CARGO UNIT 9.
“Keep calm,” Wolf whispered. “We do this smooth.”
Moon tilted his head innocently.
The guards scanned their IDs. “Authorization code?”
“This one,” Wolf replied, drawing his blaster and firing before they could speak again.
Alarms shrieked through the hall. Zarn split into a dozen mirrored selves, each summoning illusions of Moon barking in chaos. The guards scattered, firing at shadows that vanished before impact.
Wolf sprinted for the cell, slamming his hand onto the controls. “You ready to leave, Doc?”
WOW adjusted his spectacles, unbothered. “About time. They plan to replicate the Chrono Shift Gauntlet. If they finish, they will command the future itself.”
Wolf smiled. “Not if we get there first.”
Chapter 5: The Mimicon Uprising
The rebels rose at dawn. Neomorphs emerged from caverns and shattered cities, armor glinting under the pale light. Doctor WOW, back in command, calibrated the Gauntlet on his wrist. The device flared with electric fire, sending ripples of foresight through the battlefield.
“Left flank in three seconds,” he muttered, and the troops moved before the enemy even knew to fire.
Zarn towered over the horizon, taking the form of the Nemisen leader and shouting orders that led the invaders into their own traps. Pirate ships spiraled into one another. Chaos rained.
Moon charged into the fray with a small energy pack strapped to his back, barking so loud it echoed across the canyons. The sight of the tiny dog rallying an army became the spark Mimicon needed.
Wolf led the charge with Zee at his side, blasting through turrets and drone lines until the fortress walls cracked. “Push forward!” he shouted. “This planet breathes free tonight!”
The Nemisens broke formation, their general struck down by Zarn’s mimicry. The sky lit with victory fire as the last pirate cruiser fell into the sea below.
Chapter 6: Aftermath
Mimicon glowed once more. The surface shimmered with slow-moving light, the air alive with the hum of rebirth.
Doctor WOW stood at the heart of the crystal fields and placed the Gauntlet deep within the planet’s core. “Let it rest here,” he said. “No one should see the future too clearly.”
Zarn shifted beside Moon, matching his shape perfectly, even down to the wag of his tail and the glint in his eyes. “Clone tag?” they asked, sunglasses slightly crooked.
Moon barked and tackled them.
Wolf looked to the stars. “Where to next Moon?”
Moon wagged his tail.
WOW grinned. “I have a few ideas.”
Wolf hit the throttle.
The End… or just the next signal?
